All external walls are faced with 75mm of expanded foam insulation pinned to the blockwork and faced with render. The windows have plantation pine frames and high performance double glazing with argon in the cavity. The front of the house faces South West and receives most sun. There are large high performance skylights in the roof to light and warm the front bedroom and mezzanine. The solar panel supplies almost all the hot water needs for 6 months of the year. The tree in front of the house has been pollarded so that it will shade the front door without shading the solar panel. The aluminium front door is a relic of the old house which will soon be surrounded by a south facing sun porch, to be built in 2002. |
